Hello, World!
My name is Chris and I’m currently a computer science major
at Pitt. I work as a research assistant at Pitt in a microbiology lab where we
study mycobacteria and their viruses (mycobacteriophages). I do both classical wet
bench experiments along with some bioinformatics. I am lightly involved in the
HHMI SEA-PHAGES program, in which university students around the country
discover novel mycobacteriophages. For this program, I participated in an in-silico workshop where I assisted in
training faculty from new member schools in mycobacteriophage genome
annotation. I also helped run an advanced mycobacteriophage genomics course at
HHMI. At this particular workshop, faculty from SEA schools looked in-depth at
a small subset of mycobacteriophages. If you would like to learn more about the

Through my bioinformatics work, which started my senior year
of my first undergraduate career, I rediscovered my passion for computer
science. I decided in the fall of 2013 to go back to school part time to obtain
a second bachelor’s in computer science. This is my professional blog and here
you can read about me and any projects that I tackle. I will write about
projects in sections to give everyone updates on how they are coming along.
There will also be posts relating to issues in computer science as well as
bioinformatics. I hope you enjoy reading about my journey as much as I enjoy
taking it!
